These five easy to follow suggestions help lower your blood sugar levels naturally and are suitable for any diabetes sufferer. Use them in combination and your blood sugar levels will, in time, return to normal.
# 1 Improve your diet
Eat plenty of vegetables, particularly green vegetables, which are an excellent source of dietary fibre. Because of this, vegetables are a good food source for lowering your blood sugar levels. Dietary fibre is also found in oatmeal. A healthy, balanced diet should include five portions of different fruits and vegetables each day. Include at least one portion of green vegetables, with the other portions being made up of fruits and vegetables of different colours. Vegetables should be lightly steamed or eaten raw.
Avoid junk food. You should avoid all foods that are highly processed and that are high in fat and salt content. Choose instead from a selection of foods that are high dietary fibre, low calorie and that are low in carbohydrates and contain adequate amounts of protein.
Do not skip meals. If you do, you will be more likely to over compensate afterwords by eating excessively. It is better to eat compatible foods more frequently, but in smaller quantities.
# 2 Lose weight
Losing weight will reduce the demands on your already strained supply of insulin. Lower insulin requirements and better conversion of blood sugar in to energy will result from weight reduction.
# 3 Take regular exercise.
Take regular moderate exercise. Choose cardio-vascular exercises such as walking at a brisk pace, cycling, or swimming. These exercises burn calories, increase circulation and strengthen your heart and lungs. Taking regular moderate exercise also encourages your body to generate the much needed precious insulin.
# 4 Get enough sleep
Always try to get a good night’s sleep. The quality of your sleep is as important, if not more so, than the quantity of sleep you have. A poor sleep pattern can result in your body becoming run down making it more susceptible to illness and can exacerbate an already existing diabetic condition.
A good night’s sleep helps your body’s self-healing process and contributes towards reversing your diabetic condition.
# 5 Develop a positive mental attitude
It has been long recognized that people with a positive mental attitude live longer and are healthier than people with a negative disposition. Some people have made themselves ill as a manifestation of their negative thoughts. Doctors call these psycho-somatic illnesses.
On the other hand, there are countless case studies of patients making full recoveries from life threatening illnesses by the power of their positive mental attitude when their doctors could do nothing more for them.
Having a positive mental attitude is an important, but often over looked, part of the management of your diabetic condition.
The good news is that without use of any medications or taking insulin shots your blood sugar levels could be significantly reduced naturally by using these suggestions in combination.
